The AFM Ciné Club will be screening Les Algues Vertes, a drama-thriller based on the groundbreaking
investigation by journalist Inès Léraud, who also co-wrote the screenplay.
Set in Brittany, this investigative drama uncovers the disturbing reality behind the proliferation of toxic green algae along the French coast — a direct consequence of industrial farming and environmental neglect. Through suspense and social commentary, the film brings to light the dangers of silencing whistleblowers and the urgent need for ecological accountability.
We will be joined for discussion on the film by passionate cinéphile Bertrand Bourgeois, Associate Professor in French Cinema Studies at the University of Melbourne.
