Ready to challenge your French and compete with students from around the world?

Le DÉFI Inter‑Alliances is back, and Alliance Française de Melbourne is inviting eligible students to take part in this exciting international competition focused on French and Francophone culture.

Le DÉFI is a trivia quiz conducted entirely in French, organised by the global Alliance Française network. It’s a fun and motivating way to practise your French, test your cultural knowledge, and proudly represent Alliance Française de Melbourne and Australia on an international stage.

 
Competition stages & prizes

The competition unfolds in four stages, with prizes at each level:

 1. Local selection (AF Melbourne)
📅Wednesday 29 April
🕔 5:15–6:00 pm, at The French Hub
🎁First prize: a workshop at the French Hub,  Second prize: a ticket to one of our events

2. National selection (Australia)
📅 Before 17 May (exact date TBC)
💻 Online 
🎁 Prizes: Two $300 gift vouchers for a local restaurant

3. Geographical zone semi‑final
📅Saturday 23 May
💻 Online
✈️ Prize: One‑week trip to Brussels (Belgium) to compete in the international final

4. International final
📅July (one week)
📍 Brussels, Belgium

To take part in Le DÉFI 2026, you must:

• Be a current student at Alliance Française de Melbourne
• Be 18 years or older
• Have a minimum French level of A2
• Not be a native French speaker

Participation is free.
